Remember that medical doses for the drug are often quite different than what bodybuilders and athletes use – and with different results.
Bodybuilders often incorporate Clenbuterol into their cycles or post-cycle therapy routines, but is it effective?
What is the recommended dose of Clenbuterol when used with a prescription and under a doctor’s guidance? Compare that to the dosage often taken by bodybuilders and athletes.

It’s defined as a sympathomimetic amine – something that mimics some autonomic functions in the body.
Autonomic functions include:
It’s known by a number of foreign as well as generic names but its chemical formula (C12 H18Cl2N2O) is the best way to ensure it’s the real thing.
Clenbuterol is marketed under a number of brand names around the world, including but not limited to:
It’s also found in a number of veterinary grade products including:
Clenbuterol is a bronchodilator with a long half-life. It’s not prescribed for human use in the United States, but is a drug treatment choice in other countries around the world.
What would a bodybuilder gain from a bronchodilator? Because of its mechanism of actions and properties, Clenbuterol is perceived to provide slight weight loss due to its ability to repartition body fat.
Because of increased oxygen and involvement (minimal) in metabolism it may also help increase development of lean muscle mass.
These abilities are minimal overall. A person would have to take extremely high doses (greater than 40 mcg) in order to see significant visible benefits.
In some ways, the components can enhance the production of energy, and therefore building of muscle, but not nearly as much as that achieved through use of an anabolic androgenic steroid.
The same applies to weight loss. Clenbuterol is more effective on someone with an already lean body mass.
For example, use of this medicine may help an athlete shed a few pounds prior to a competition, but it is relatively ineffective for anyone who is overweight or obese.
Dosage of Clenbuterol can have an impact on either benefits or potential side effects.
Medically recommended for the treatment of asthma, the average Clenbuterol dosage was up to 20 mcg a day.
Note – You may find references in regard to Clenbuterol usage defined in ug or Ugas well as mcg (micrograms). They’re the same thing – ug is merely the symbol for microgram.
The most common dosage used by bodybuilders averages 60 mcg to 120 mcg on a daily basis.
Women are recommended to use a slightly lower dosage range averaging 40 mcg Clenbuterol to 120 mcg a day.
Suggestions are to cycle use of Clen in a two-day on/two-day off cycle. However, you’ll find bodybuilding websites that recommend up to two weeks to three weeks on and the same time off.
For example, a three-week cycle for men is often combined with an anabolic androgenic steroid and other drugs designed to reduce the potential for side effects.
Some even recommend combining more than one type of bronchodilator into the post-cycle therapy routine.
Following is such a sample. High levels of such drugs, especially in combination, can contribute to a number of alarming side effects and adverse reactions.
|Week 1||80 mcg daily||50 mg daily||16 mg daily|
|Week 2||80 mcg daily||50 mg daily||25 mg Proviron daily + 16 mg additional bronchodilator|
|Week 3||80 mcg daily||50 mg daily||25 mg Proviron Dealey + 16 mg additional bronchodilator|
While 40 mcg of oral Clenbuterol is considered a relatively low dose based on average use by bodybuilders and athletes, it can still contribute to side effects.
This is true of any drug that is put into the body when it’s not medically necessary. Watch for:
The above symptoms can put a strain on numerous body systems including cardiovascular and respiratory function. The higher the dosage, the increased risk of experiencing such side effects.
Before using Clenbuterol, even in a relatively low 40 mcg Clenbuterol dosage, be aware of the risk for unexpected side effects that more than outweigh its benefits for bodybuilding, muscle mass gains, or weight loss.
